For those adding text to their project, we now support a wide range of characters in our Design Studio. Simply use the Noto Sans font.
All of our fonts support the Basic Latin and Latin-1 Supplement characters. This means that any language that is derived from Latin (such as French, German, and Spanish among others) are supported by all seven fonts we have available.
Noto Sans* however is a modern, easy-to-read font that offers extensive multi-language support. This font supports Latin, Greek, Cyrillic, and Devanagari characters (including a large range of diacritics e.g. accents, macrons, umlauts). The addition of Noto Sans means that we can now support:
220 African languages
174 American languages
198 Asian languages
175 European languages
39 Oceanic languages
You can see the wide range of languages supported by Noto Sans here. Other fonts that we have available (such as Playfair Display) support many languages but do not have the same wide range available as Noto Sans.
If you are unsure whether the characters you want to use would be supported or not, you can enter them into a text box in the design studio. If the selected font does not support them, the design studio will change the font to one that does support them. If none of the available fonts support them, you will receive an 'unsupported characters' warning.
Unfortunately, the Design Studio does not currently support Japanese, Chinese, or Korean characters but we hope to be able to add them in the near future.
*Please note that the Noto Sans font is not currently available for the MILK Books Photo App extension for Mac.
